“We condemn the emergency order expanding police powers announced by Premier Ford on April 16, 2021. Public backlash forced the Ontario government to rescind parts of this order. Still, police maintain the power to surveil, harass, card, and arrest people with impunity, exacerbating the existing police violence against working class, Black, Indigenous and racialized people in this province. Instead of trying to police their way through this pandemic, we demand that the Ontario government commit to a pandemic response that prioritizes the rights and safety of workers and the health of marginalized communities.”
