The No Pride in Policing Coalition (NPPC) will be available to speak to media at a press conference just prior to the Abolish Police in Canada: A Pride Rally and Teach-in at 1:30pm Sunday June 28th at the Nathan Phillips Square stage.

“We are gathering to join the international and Canada-wide call for defunding, disarming and dismantling police on Pride Day in Toronto and send two clear messages,” added Gary Kinsman. “First, racist police murders against Black, Indigenous and Brown people are a pressing issue for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer communities (2SLGBTQ); second, Pride is and always has been a political protest.”

The event is co-sponsored by a number of community organizations within and beyond the 2SLGBTQ community and will launch a broad public campaign calling for defunding, de-militarization, and abolition of Police forces in Toronto and across Canada. A statement of demands is gathering signatures from groups and individuals.
